On January 23, 2026 Agriculture & Argi-Food Canada (AAFC) announced budget cuts that will reduce their workforce by 12% (665 employees), close seven research farms across Canada, four of the research farms are on the Prairies (Indian Head, Scott, Portage la Prairie, Lacombe) and the Organic and Regenerative Research program at the Swift Current Research and Development Centre. These cuts threaten critical progress in organic, regenerative and sustainable agriculture, with far-reaching impacts for farmers and food production across the Prairies.

The Prairie Food System Vision Network (PFVSN) is excited to announce the appointment of five new directors to its Board. These individuals bring extensive experience in Indigenous governance, public health, food justice, education, and community-based leadership. Their commitment to equity, reconciliation, and sustainable food systems will help guide PFVSN in advancing its mission to foster food sovereignty and regional collaboration across the Canadian Prairies.

Achieving our vision requires a systems-wide transformation that addresses our colonial legacy and anticipates new threats like climate change and rapid biodiversity loss.  Our vision is focused on six integrated areas of action – culture, diet, policy, environment, economy and technology.

Prairie Food System Vision Network (PFSVN) has a vision and mission aimed at supporting, identifying and encouraging solutions that influence the socio-ecological transformation of our food system. They accomplish this through their Solutions Hub activities such as virtual conversational gatherings and by supporting local projects through pilot food systems microgrants.
