Prairie Food System Vision Network Announces New Board Members

[Regina, SK] — The Prairie Food System Vision Network (PFVSN) is excited to announce the appointment of five new directors to its Board. These individuals bring extensive experience in Indigenous governance, public health, food justice, education, and community-based leadership. Their commitment to equity, reconciliation, and sustainable food systems will help guide PFVSN in advancing its mission to foster food sovereignty and regional collaboration across the Canadian Prairies.

Newly appointed board members include:

  • Gord Androsoff – With a background in biology, agriculture, and food security, Gord has worked as an agronomist, executive director, and land restoration consultant. Raised on a mixed farm near Saskatoon, he is passionate about community, local food systems, and policies that support thriving rural communities and small farmers.

  • Jeff Baker, PhD – A Métis educator and Indigenous methodologies scholar, Jeff integrates Indigenous and Western knowledge systems to foster land-based learning and reconciliation. He has served as Chair in Indigenous Education at the University of Saskatchewan and currently works with the Resilience Institute, while stewarding a land-based learning lab in Saskatchewan.

  • Daniel Bellegarde – A citizen of Little Black Bear’s Band (Treaty 4 Territory), Daniel has held senior positions in First Nations governance, including Vice-Chief of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations. His leadership has spanned treaty rights, justice, and self-government. He currently serves as Justice Coordinator for his community and is Chair of the File Hills First Nations Police Service Board.

  • Elizabeth Onyango, PhD – Assistant Professor at the University of Alberta’s School of Public Health, Dr. Onyango is a health geographer and social epidemiologist focused on migration, gender, and food security. Her research explores access to food security initiatives for migrant communities and the social determinants of health. She is a dedicated community leader and a member of Rotary International.

  • Renée Vaugeois – A human rights advocate and Executive Director of the John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights, Renée brings over two decades of leadership in anti-racism, food justice, and grassroots community organizing. She co-leads the Food Security and Food Justice Edmonton initiative and brings a strong rights-based and equity lens to food systems work.

“These five remarkable individuals bring a depth of lived experience, leadership, and commitment to justice,” said Paul Hanley, Board Chair of PFVSN. “Their insights and relationships will strengthen our collective ability to support community-led food solutions across the Prairies.”

The Prairie Food System Vision Network continues to grow a regional movement rooted in its mission: that the Treaty Peoples of the Prairie region reconcile their relationships, restore the land, and build healthy, equitable, and sustainable food systems.  The addition of these new board members signals a strong step forward in building resilient and just food systems across the Canadian Prairies. They join existing board members Mary Beckie, Branimir Gjetvaj, Paul Hanley, and Neil Whatley in advancing this shared vision.
