Agriculture & Agri Food Canada - AgriScience Program
The AgriScience Program, under the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP), aims to accelerate innovation by providing funding and support for pre-commercial science activities and research that benefits the agriculture and agri-food sector and Canadians.
Program priorities
Research projects must align with at least one of the program's 3 priority areas:
Climate Change and Environment
Economic Growth and Development
Sector Resilience and Societal Challenges
Examples of research areas include climate adaptation, carbon sequestration, value-added products, addressing labour challenges, use of artificial intelligence and big data in agriculture, increasing productivity, and plant and animal health.
Details
Funding for projects at technology readiness levels 4 to 7 (proof of concept to prototype)
Cost-sharing between AAFC and approved applicants at a minimum of 50:50
Non-repayable contributions for industry-led research that may involve partners (academia or science providers)
Research support from AAFC scientists is also an option

Not-for-profit organizations
Indigenous individuals and organizations

Project Summary Form: You must submit a project summary form by email. It is used to assess eligibility based on the mandatory program criteria.
Full Application: If the project meets the program criteria, you will be invited to submit a full application.
Funding
Funding is available up to $5M per project and $10M per applicant over the program's duration (2023-2028). Increased cost-share ratios are available for the following:
Not-for-profit organizations with a project focusing on GHG reduction or carbon sequestration may apply for funding of up to 70%
Indigenous applicants may be eligible for increased cost-share ratios and are encouraged to contact the program for more details
Timeline
Applications will be accepted until funding has been fully committed or if otherwise announced by the program. The program ends March 31, 2028.
