Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) are identified through a scientifically rigorous and internationally recognized process. They represent the places that play a disproportionate role in ensuring the survival of species and ecosystems.
While KBA recognition does not come with any automatic management or legal requirements, the information on KBAs is informing protected-area and land use planning, stewardship and Indigenous-led conservation, biodiversity monitoring, regulatory approaches to conservation, and more across Canada and the world.
Join Dr. Peter Soroye from Wildlife Conservation Society Canada as he introduces the KBA work in Canada, and an overview of how this tool may support stewardship and conservation work in watersheds across Canada.
